Sid McDowell

Chair

After studying at Ruskin College, Oxford, Sid was as a senior trade union official for almost thirty years before serving as Chairman of the Northern Ireland Housing Executive from 1995 until 2004. He has been Chair of the Public Service Commission since its establishment in March 2006 and is also Chairman of the National House building Council (NI). In July, 2011, he completed two terms as a Non-Executive Director of the Northern Ireland Prison Service and also served for 8 years as a Civil Service Commissioner.

In the voluntary and private sector, Sid is President of the Northern Ireland Association of Citizens Advice Bureaux, President of the Association for Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus (NI), and Patron of the Council for the Homeless (NI). He has also chaired the Housing Rights Service Preventing Possession initiative. As a current Board Member Sid had oversight of the construction of Northern Ireland’s new Lyric Theatre which opened in 2011 and was recently appointed as Board Vice-Chairman. In July, 2012, Sid was elected as Chairman of Northern Ireland Co-Ownership Housing in July, 2012.
